5 CAUSES OF ENGINE OVERHEAT

  1. coolant leak

Your coolant system depends on hoses and clamps to move coolant between engine, reservoir, radiator, pump, and other critical parts. These connections can break down due to age, weather, and corrosion. We can test your system, find the leak, and repair it.

2. COOLANT NEEDS TO BE CHANGED

If the ratio of coolant to water is off, your coolant system may need a flush and replacement to work properly

3. BAD THERMOSTAT

Thermostats are the switch that turns on your engine’s cooling system. If the switch goes bad in any system, it won’t turn on or off. This needs to be addressed quickly to prevent more expensive damage to your car. We may recommend replacement of the thermostat if we are performing another repair near it, since the part is usually inexpensive compared to the labor to get to it.

4. BAD RADIATOR

The radiator acts as a heat exchanger in your car, using the flow of air while driving to cool the coolant. If your radiator is leaking, clogged, or damaged it may need replacement. If the problem is a cap, fan, or belt, we can repair the radiator instead of replacing it.

5. WATER PUMP

The water pump moves coolant through your car, from the reservoir to the radiator to the engine. It is controlled by the thermostat. Many times, we recommend replacement of the thermostat if the water pump goes bad.
